January 20, 2023 – Superintendent Candidate Information
Ms. Tami Knedler will be interviewing for the position of superintendent with the board of education on Friday, January 20.
Ms. Knedler is the fourth of four candidates that the USD 109 board of education will be interviewing. Ms. Knedler is currently serving as an assistant superintendent of elementary education at USD 443 in Dodge City, KS. She is in her seventh year in this position. Previously, she was an early childhood principal in Dodge City for five years. She has also served as an elementary instructional coach for two years and an elementary teacher for 10 years in Dodge City and Colorado.
The interview day schedule is as follows:
8 :00 a.m. Meet with District Office Staff and Administrators
8:30 a.m. Tour East Elementary
9:15 a.m. Tour Republic County Jr. Sr. High School
10:00 a.m. Community Tour
11: 00-11:30 a.m. “Meet and Greet” with Staff/Public – Jr. Sr. HS Flex Room
11:45 a.m. Lunch with Board at the Jr. Sr. High School Conference Room
12:15 p.m. Formal Interview begins with the board
Staff and patrons are encouraged to come meet the candidate at 11 a.m. at the Jr. Sr. High School Flex Room. The dinner and interview will be held in an executive session for non-elected personnel during the special board meeting scheduled at 11:45 a.m.

January 19, 2023 – Superintendent Candidate Information
Mr. Jeff Sells will be interviewing for the position of superintendent with the board of education on the evening of Thursday, January 19, 2023.
Mr. Sells is the third of four candidates that the USD 109 board of education will be interviewing. Mr. Sells is currently serving as principal at Rose Hill Middle School in Rose Hill, KS. He is in his third year in this position. He also served as the assistant principal for one year at Rose Hill Middle School. Mr. Sells has 13 years of teaching and coaching experience. He has taught at Valley Center Middle School and High School and at Wheatland Elementary School in Valley Center, KS.
The interview day schedule is as follows:
1:00 p.m. Arrive at District Office/Meet with District Office Staff and Administrators
1:30 p.m. Tour East Elementary
2:15 p.m. Tour Republic County Jr. Sr. High School
3:00 p.m. Community Tour
4:00-4:30 p.m. “Meet and Greet” with Staff/Public – Jr. Sr. HSl Flex Room
4:30-5:45 p.m. Free Time
5:45 p.m. Dinner with Board at the Jr. Sr. High School Conference Room
6:30 p.m. Formal Interview begins with the board

Due to school being cancelled today, we are unable to have Little Buffs Cheer Clinic tonight. We are rescheduling for Saturday (1/21) from 8:00-9:30 AM in the high school main gym. Please contact Michelle Hubert at mhubert@usd109.org with questions.

The high school wrestling dual at Thayer Central will not be held today. We hope to find a date to reschedule.

Update for Thursday, January 19: USD 109 is closed today due to weather conditions.


Republic County USD 109 will have a two hour late start on Thursday, January 19.
School will start at 10:00 am with buses running 2 hours late. There will be no breakfast and no morning preschool.

January 18, 2023 – Superintendent Candidate Information
Mrs. Nancy Meyer will be interviewing for the position of superintendent with the board of education the evening of January 18th, 2023.
She is the second of four candidates that the USD 109 board of education will be interviewing. Mrs. Meyer is currently serving as the interim superintendent for the district. Previously, Mrs. Meyer served as interim superintendent at Riley County, KS, in 2015-2016. She was superintendent at Holton Schools from 2010-2014, and Marmaton Valley Schools from 2006-2010. She has also served as a high school principal for 3 years and a business teacher for 12 years.
Interview Schedule: (conducted in executive session)
5:45 p.m. Dinner with the Board
6:15 p.m. Formal Interview Begins
The interview will be held at the administration office.

This trip is open to current 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students and will take place in the summer of 2025.
Meeting will be held in the RCHS Front Lobby Flex Classroom from 6:00-7:00 pm on February 9.


The high school basketball teams both suffered first round losses at the Hillsboro tournament tonight. Girls will play Friday at 6:00 and the boys at 7:30, both in the Tabor Gym.

Art I is exploring sculpture. Each student was given a cardboard tube then challenged to turn it into a pop art creation!💥

7th grade art is exploring drawing. We currently are learning how to use a grid as a tool in drawing. It’s never a favorite project when we are starting out, but they are off to a great start!





Republic County Schools will be closed Wednesday, January 18 due to weather conditions.


Congratulations goes out to Dillion Burnett… It was just announced that he is a regional award winner in the 2023 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.
Dillon was named a silver key recipient! His art work will be on display in Wichita February 10th-March 25th.

This is the 100th year for the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. These awards are the country's longest-running and most prestigious scholarship and recognition program for creative students in grades 7–12.
This year, more than 1,600 artworks were submitted by teens across Eastern Kansas.
428 creative teens from Eastern Kansas received regional honors, including Gold Keys, Silver Keys, Honorable Mentions.
