January 16, 2023 – Superintendent Candidate Information
Mr. Trenton Horn will be interviewing for the position of superintendent with the board of education on the evening of Monday, January 16.
Mr. Horn is the first of four candidates that the USD 109 board of education will be interviewing. Mr. Horn is currently serving as the superintendent at USD 452 Stanton County Schools in Johnson City, KS. He is in his fourth year in this position. Previously, he was a principal at Chapman Middle School for three years and at Valley Heights Jr. Sr. High School for one year. Mr. Horn was an Agricultural Education Instructor and coach from 1999 to 2015 at Chapman, Linn, and Hanover.
The interview day schedule is as follows:
1:00 p.m. Arrive at District Office
1:10 p.m. Community Tour
2:00 p.m. Meet with District Office Staff and Administrators
2:30 p.m. Tour East Elementary
3:15 p.m. Tour Jr. Sr. High School
4:00-4:30 p.m. “Meet and Greet” with Staff/Public – Jr. Sr. High School Flex Room
4:30-5:45 p.m. Free Time
5:45 p.m. Dinner with Board at the Jr. Sr. High School Conference Room
6:30 p.m. Formal Interview begins with the board
Staff and patrons are encouraged to come meet the candidate at 4:00 p.m. at the Jr. Sr. High School Flex Room. The dinner and interview will be held in an executive session for non-elected personnel during the special board meeting scheduled at 5:45 p.m.

Sixth grade began learning with new Sphero Bots this week. The robots are controlled with iPad’s and can be programmed using coding to perform numerous tasks. The basic first task was basic operation and bowling. Thank you to The Republic County Community Foundation for funding this STEM grant! The grant is a key component to integrating coding and robotics into our curriculum.
Art Club is serving a spaghetti meal at the game tonight! Come join us… 🍝 Money raised will go towards our Art Club trip to Omaha in February.

Kindergarteners are learning the basics to computer programming in STEM!
Sixth Grade science completed their gravity and motion unit with a hands on lab. They were asked to create their own amusement park rides using gravity.
