Good Luck to the Republic County basketball teams tonight when they travel to Concordia.
KSHSAA's Board of Directors voted 54-24 to allow two parents/guardian per participant(s) family to attend interscholastic activities December 10, 2020 through January 28, 2021 as allowed by local board of education and health department restrictions.
Digging into this a bit further to explain:
1. Local School Districts and Health Departments still have local control to put more stringent limits in place limiting attendance. When traveling to compete at other schools, schools will have to go by the local guidelines of the host school.
2. Parent/guardian means they must be of 18 years of age to be considered a guardian.
3. Participants are defined as players, cheerleaders and pep band members.
4. Two per participant(s) family means no matter the number of participants per family (for example, a JV Boy, Two Varsity Girls, Band does not equal eight people allowed in as parents/guardian), it is still only two parents/guardian total per family--Not two per participant.
5. This goes until the 28th of January at which time there is no KSHSAA restrictions unless they would come back and change it prior to that.

KSHSAA's Board of Appeals just voted 7-1 in favor of sending the decision of no fans at winter sports events through Jan. 28 back to the board of directors. The new meeting where the BOD will reconsider allowing 1-2 parents per attendee will be held next Tuesday at 1:00pm.
As of 3:30pm on Thursday, December 3, USD 109 is planning for Grades 7-12 to return to on-site, in-person learning on Monday, December 7, with activities resuming as well. All mitigation protocols and KSHSAA/state guidelines are in place. The cases in the county remain high; however our students need to be back in school, all athletic teams will all be off quarantine and there are only few cases amongst our students right now in the jr/sr high school.
Please continue to remind yourself and our students to stay home if they are feeling ill.
As Republic County is one of the top 25 counties in the nation right now in regards to the number of cases per capita, it is crucial to practice social distancing, wearing a mask and regular hand washing/sanitation not only in school, but as we are out and about in the community as well.
