Two-Hour Late Start Changed to Jan. 31
The Two-Hour Late Start originally scheduled for Wednesday, January 25, has been moved to Tuesday, January 31, due to the Bullying Prevention presentations scheduled that day.
Bullying Prevention Presentations

On Tuesday, January 31, USD 109 and the Republic County High School Student Council will be sponsoring consultant Joe Coles. Mr. Coles will be presenting information on the prevention of bullying and cyber bullying to staff, students, and interested community members. Mr. Coles, of Cimarron, KS is a speaker, consultant, and teacher. He has been a presenter in schools, in communities, and at conferences across Kansas and the Midwestern United States. Mr. Coles conducts workshops at schools on numerous topics including student leadership and character development, bullying and cyber bullying. Recently, he has been a presenter at Rachael's Challenges conferences. As educator for 35 years, Mr. Coles has been a teacher, counselor, coach, athletic director, and school administrator. Mr. Coles was a teacher in Belleville several decades ago.

So that Mr. Coles has the time to talk with staff school will start two hours late on January 31. Originally, this two hour late start was scheduled for January 25. During the day Mr. Coles will make presentations by grade levels.

From 5:00 p.m. to 6:15 p.m., CARES will be serving a free-will soup supper at the Republic County Junior and Senior High School cafeteria. At 6:30 p.m. Mr. Coles will then make a presentation for parents and interested community members. This presentation is open to all members of the public, not just those associated with the schools. CARES will also be sponsoring day care and an activity for children who accompany their parents to Mr. Coles' presentation.

USD-109 Schools Receive "Standard of Excellence" Honors

Earlier this month, the "Standard of Excellence" designations based upon Kansas Assessment scores of last spring were released for schools in Kansas. The Standard of Excellence is earned by a large number of students tested scoring in the highest levels and a small number of students scoring in the lower test levels.
